Pressure Builds to Open Gaza Aid Corridor

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of Britain pressed for aid in Gaza a day after President Biden said Israel would allow limited supplies. It was not clear if Mr. Biden’s trip would dampen anger over the war and the carnage at a hospital in Gaza, which have prompted anti-Israel protests. A day after President Biden said Israel would allow limited humanitarian relief into Gaza, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of Britain visited Tel Aviv and pushed further for a swift opening of an aid route. On Thursday morning, Dr. Iyad Abu Karsh, an intensive care doctor who normally works at Al Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza, found himself treating a patient he had never expected to see: his 2-year-old daughter, Tamara. She, along with his sister and his niece, had been taken to the European Gaza Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis after an Israeli airstrike hit the home where he and his family had been sheltering after evacuating from Gaza City, in the northern part of the enclave. They thought they would find safety there. But the same strike killed his wife and eldest son, he and the head of the hospital, Dr. Yousef Al Akkad, said. Over the last week, Dr. Abu Karsh had been treating patients at his own hospital, a steady stream of Gazans wounded in the airstrikes.
